<image:title>Blog - So You Wanna Go Camping? - Gear Gear is expensive and amassing the camping stuff necessary to have a comfortable and safe time is going to be the most expensive part of your trip. Luckily, there are ways to get around this without spending a fortune! REI, along with other outdoor companies offer gear rentals if you want to try out camping before committing to buying a tent or sleeping bag. Additionally, UNC-Chapel Hill students can rent gear for cheap from Campus Rec! Once you have your car packed and ready to go, make sure to hit the grocery store to get lots of non-perishable food you can easily cook at the campsite! I highly recommend this camping stove; it is affordable and makes it super easy to heat up meals. Keep your eye out for another blog from me about my go-to camping meals!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - So You Wanna Go Camping? - Ball on a budget Save money along the way by eating out minimally and instead enjoying picnics. Take advantage of all the free swimming and hiking along the parkway, I’ve listed some of my very favorites to the left. Now that I’ve shared how to get out in the Blue Ridge in the first place, enjoy a peek into some of my favorite moments from my road trip with Claudia. We started at the very bottom of the Great Smoky Mountains and ended up at the top in Shenandoah National Park.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - So You Wanna Go Camping? - Campsites As far as campsites go, depending on where in the state you are, there may be plenty of BLM and public land where you can camp for free! I recommend using freecampsites.net to search for free campsites near you. The downside with free campsites, however, is that they often don’t have the amenities that more established sites have, like running water and bathrooms. On this trip, Claudia and I opted for inexpensive paid campsites so that we didn’t have to worry about running out of drinking water or using the bathroom in the woods. If you’re searching for a more established campground along the Parkway, check out the National Park website to see availability and book!</image:title>

My Favorite Places to Play Outside Near Chapel Hill - NC Botanical Gardens Just a short drive from campus, the NC Botanical Gardens is like the Arboretum on steroids. Hanging up my Eno on a tree over the river and listening to the water move can help me feel calm even on the most stressed-out days. <image:title>Blog - Local Loves! My Favorite Places to Play Outside Near Chapel Hill - Town of Chapel Hill Walking Trails There are quite a few trails in Chapel Hill and I often walk the ones behind the Northside Neighborhood with my roommates on sunny days. <image:title>Blog - Local Loves! My Favorite Places to Play Outside Near Chapel Hill - The Coker Arboretum I love it here because this option is right on campus, but it doesn’t feel like it. They’ve done an amazing job making it feel like a garden oasis rather than a little block of land on the edge of campus. Once it's warmer out, this is the perfect place to throw down a blanket and have some snacks with friends, do homework, or destress between classes!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Local Loves! My Favorite Places to Play Outside Near Chapel Hill - Merritt’s Pasture Right by campus, there is another Chapel Hill walking trail that leads to a pretty pasture that is the perfect place to have a picnic or watch the sunset. I recommend grabbing a BLT from Merritt’s Grill and taking it to go for a picnic- you won’t regret soaking in a little sun here. I hope you enjoyed reading about some of the places most special to me in Chapel Hill. If you haven't already, give forest bathing a try, and let me know if you check out any of these places. See ya Wednesday! Cheers, Katie Magnolia</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Local Loves! My Favorite Places to Play Outside Near Chapel Hill - Occoneechee Mountain This one is somewhat of a hidden gem. It’s basically a free-standing mountain in Hillsborough, and the view from the top of the hike is gorgeous. It’s a beautiful place to get some fresh air, especially in the fall when all the leaves are turning. Plus, Hillsborough has a charming little downtown, so it can be fun to grab some lunch after a good hike.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Boise, Idaho - Breakfast at BACON I’m a little biased here because this is where Grant and I worked during our time in Boise. Not only was it a great job, but the food was also AMAZING. BACON has a southern theme going, so it was funny to explain what okra and hushpuppies were to West Coasters who had never heard of them. Hushpuppies are harder to describe than you’d think… If you stop by BACON, you can’t miss the bacon flight and bacon bloody mary. I was also impressed with their take on shrimp and grits! <image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Boise, Idaho - Walk the Boise River Greenbelt One of my favorite thin gs about Boise is how walkable it is. I could walk my dog for miles through the city, all on nice trails along the Boise River. The Greenbelt connects a bunch of different parks, including Together Treasure Valley Dog Island. <image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Boise, Idaho - Drive up Bogus Basin Road for hiking or skiing If you’re a skier, I’d suggest an early breakfast before spending the whole day at Bogus Basin. This is the mountain where I went from an okay skier to a good one, and they have a great variety of terrain for different skill levels. If you visit Boise in the summer, they have activities like outdoor yoga and live music on the mountain. Not to mention, they're a non-profit ski mountain, which is pretty damn cool.</image:title>

They weren’t wrong. At Boise Fry Co., you can pick from different potato types and cuts. They also have a giant array of seasonings and sauces to choose from. I loved the purple potatoes, and shoestring fries are the best!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Acadia National Park - Sunrise on Cadillac Mountain Cadillac Mountain is the first to see the sunrise in the entire country, and the colors reflecting over the water make for one that’s worth getting up early for. After driving up the long windy road, you’ll join the throngs of people waiting for the sun to rise in anticipation. Once it begins to light up the bay below, you’re in for a long sunrise with lots of beautiful changing colors. It’s cold up here even in the summer, so dress warm and bring a coffee.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Acadia National Park - My mom is one of my best friends. Teenage me had a hard time seeing it, but great moms are the friends that last forever. I am so grateful to have a friend in my mom who loves so many of the same things I do- sunrises and blue-green mountains, napping, and laughing around a fire.</image:title>
<image:caption>This past summer, we spent more time together than 16-year-old Katie could have imagined. For around five days we traveled through Vermont and Maine in a camper van. New England is gorgeous in the summer, and Acadia National Park was a big highlight of the trip. I am a sucker for mountain and coastline combos, so this quickly became one of my favorite National Parks. Seeing all these beautiful new landscapes with my mom is something I will always remember, and I hope that more road trips are in our future. For this blog, I’m going to dive into the best way to spend a limited time in Acadia National Park, one of the East Coast’s prettiest parks.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Acadia National Park - Stop for popovers at the Jordon Pond House Once you’ve satisfied your coastal explorations, keep driving around the loop, stopping whenever your heart desires. Eventually, you’ll make it to Jordon Pond, another Acadia staple. Stop at the Jordon Pond House for a relaxing view and their classic popovers. They serve a full lunch as well! During the busy summer season, I would check to see if a reservation is needed. Depending on how slow you’ve taken your journey, it may be time to finish the loop and head back to the campsite for a little nap or break before dinner time. My mom and I enjoyed spending this part of the day relaxing and enjoying the van.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Lessons Learned From Selling Pancakes - I’ll be honest- there have been plenty of early mornings these past couple of years when I was envious of my peers who didn’t have college jobs. I hate missing out on fun plans for work on the weekends, and it can be easy to wonder what you would be able to accomplish with all the free time that would come with not having a job. Despite this, looking back I wouldn't change anything because serving during college taught me some priceless lessons.</image:title>

This take on the sandwich is so good she has the whole staff eating it, vegetarian or not. Emily also suggests swapping out your english muffin for a biscuit for the Eggs Jennifer. A southern twist on a CCS classic, (plus, biscuits are inherently better).</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Enter The Portal - It’s my favorite weekend of the year! As you read this scheduled blog post, I am at Okeechobee Music and Arts Festival for my third year, reuniting with friends from around the country, and seeing some of my favorite musicians live. Okeechobee is one of those places you must experience to truly understand. It really is magical. The feeling of being surrounded by a truly joyful crowd where everyone is creating core memories with the people closest to them is why I fell in love with live music. The first time I went in 2020, I had no idea what to expect, and left feeling like part of something bigger.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Okee 2023 Rewind - Griz This was my 5th time seeing Griz, and let me tell you he NEVER disappoints. Not only does he put on an insane show, but he is truly an amazing person. Griz incorporates saxophone in his "future funk" sets and is one of the most upbeat and encouraging DJs I've ever seen. I leave his sets feeling full and inspired to be a kinder person to those around me. It may not sound like much, but Griz always ends his sets by telling his fans to clean up the venue, which I love. He champions inclusivity, PRIDE, sustainability, and harm reduction. I will definitely be rewatching this set on YouTube until my next festival.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Okee 2023 Rewind - Zingara I would be shocked if I am not among Zingara's top fans. I found her scrolling through Tiktok about a year and a half ago, and since then she has gone on to amass a following, earn the respect and attention of huge players in the EDM community, and play some crazy stages. I got to see her for the first time at Lostlands last September, and she threw down some bass on one of the smallest stages there. Artists like Griz and Subdocta began to recognize her talent, and I felt so proud to see her play the HERE stage to such a deep and excited crowd. Her perseverance and amazing attitude inspire me to always say yes to trying new things. Her set was one of my favorites to dance to and she debuted new songs I have had on repeat since leaving Okee.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Okee 2023 Rewind - Excision A king of the dubstep community, Excision's sets are an amazing example of the full rave experience, with plenty of attention paid to the visual aspects of a great set. Okeechobee failed to give Excision the lasers and pyrotechnics he deserved, but it was still an awesome set and he played most of his hits. He is undoubtedly one of the most influential DJs in the bass music scene, and his event planning is as impressive as his music. I'm so excited to return to Lostlands in the fall, Excision's prehistoric dubstep paradise. Lostlands has some of the best production I've ever seen (sorry Okee)!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Okee 2023 Rewind - Wreckno This was my first time seeing Wreckno, and their set happily surprised me. As a gender-fluid artist, Wreckno's sets celebrate the queer community and aim to make the EDM/bass scene more inclusive for LGBTQ+ ravers. This was the first set I saw at the HERE stage this year, and the vibes of the stage matched Wreckno's upbeat energy perfectly. Shout out to the set planners of Okeechobee for always looking ahead.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Okee 2023 Rewind - Odesza This was my second time seeing Odesza, and they blew me away. All of the pyrotechnics and lasers that Okeechobee held off for Excision were brought out Friday night for Odesza. It was their first festival in four years, so they pulled out all the stops with tons of fireworks, the full drum line, and a set list full of their best songs. I attended their tour date in Atlanta last year, so I was impressed to see so many differences between the sets and all the new sequences they included.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Bozeman & Big Sky - Window Shopping in Downtown Bozeman Bozeman's downtown is really charming, and I had a fun time walking around and looking at all the shops and restaurants. This town (and Montana in general), is an outdoorsman's paradise, with stores dedicated to every outdoor activity you may be interested in, and a laid-back "just got off the mountain" street style. We stopped into Teton Gravity Research's store, and their clothes were all branded with the classic Grateful Dead dancing bears. The guys working the store were super friendly and ended up gifting me a sweatshirt they were unable to sell; it was such a kind gesture and a highlight of my trip. Moral of the story, always wear Grateful Dead merch to receive free stuff.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Bozeman & Big Sky - Dinner at Revelry For the most part, my friends and I tried to keep this trip on a college budget, with lots of cooking at the house and pocket sandwiches while skiing. However, On St. Patty's Day, we decided to splurge on a nice dinner before checking out the Bozeman bar scene. Shrimp and grits are one of my favorite meals, so when the server let me know that their chef was from the "real South", I was convinced they would be delicious. They definitely did not disappoint. A day packed full of skiing followed by an evening of shopping, great food, and fun drinks is my perfect 24 hours in Montana. I have no doubt that this state hasn't seen the last of me! <image:title>Blog - 24 Hours in Bozeman & Big Sky - Skiing in Big Sky! If you only have time to do one thing on this list, it undoubtedly needs to be this! Big Sky is the most expansive and fun mountain I've ever skied on, Steamboat Springs is the only other place I've been that competes. The mountain is absolutely massive, I was just beginning to figure out how it was laid out by our 5th and final day of skiing. We were lucky enough to get a powder day, and cutting through all of that fresh snow was a welcome change from NC skiing. The conditions were amazing the whole time and the views were breathtaking. The village had a lot of cute restaurants and bars to take a lunch break or have a few drinks at the end of the day. Montana Jack had great food and drinks, and I treated myself to a poke bowl in the lodge. If you're staying in Bozeman, bring your bathing suit with you and stop at Bozeman Hot Springs for a dip on the way home from the mountain!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Snapshot Moments - I’m writing this blog from the steps of Carroll Hall, looking out over the quad at everyone moving through class change and resting in the sun. It smells like fresh-cut grass and the magnolia flowers beginning to bloom. I feel the warm breeze on my face and sip on a lavender iced coffee (CCS of course). I can hear friends laughing and creating memories with each other. Another moment committed to memory. As I make my way through my last year at Carolina, I am feeling incredibly nostalgic and happy-sad at the same time. I’ll be spending the rest of it taking snapshots and making the most of it all, because I don't want to forget a thing! Cheers, Katie Magnolia</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - Rhymes and Rhythms - Words have always been a source of inspiration for me. On bad days, I consult my arsenal of music and poems for comfort. While I sometimes try to write poetry myself, I normally find solace in the writing of others. Poetry takes a certain type of confidence and vulnerability to share one’s emotions with the world. That's why I appreciate it so much – it’s comforting to know that someone else has experienced the same feelings as me and was creative enough to express it through a beautiful story.</image:title>
